Rauch House
The residential building is located high above the village of Schlins, on a steep, south-facing slope. In its orientation and form, the building responds directly to the topographical conditions of the narrow plot and the impressive landscape context. The building rises as a monolithic structure that literally grows out of the earth.
The massive rammed earth walls unite the architectural intention with the clear desire to create an ecological building made exclusively from natural materials. The design is the result of close collaboration between the architect and the master clay builder. The construction process is characterized by experimental approaches that led to continuous refinements as the work progressed.
