Augsburg Environmental Education Center
The new Augsburg Environmental Education Center is a learning and meeting place for sustainable development. The single-storey pavilion building is located at the transition from the botanical garden to the city and thus combines nature and urbanity.
The clear, square basic shape contrasts with the organically shaped foyer made of rammed earth, which serves as the centerpiece – exhibition area, communication space and spatial center at the same time. It divides the building into seminar and event rooms, office and administration areas as well as storage and workshops.
In several places, the rammed earth walls extend right up to the façade, marking entrances and transitions between inside and outside. The curved shapes of the foyer are continued in the open space design. Surrounded by “wild gardens”, the building itself becomes a showpiece for energy-efficient, resource-saving construction and the open spaces become learning and adventure areas.
