A clay wall rich in color and textural nuances separates the large conference hall from the foyer in the Alpbach Congress Center. On the one hand, it condenses and comments on the character of the facility, which is sunk deep into the ground and at the same time strongly illuminated, at the level of detailed design; on the other hand, it also acts as a climate regulator and acoustic wall.

Thanks to the good storage effect of the clay wall, the room air can be around 2°C lower in winter than with conventional construction methods, which means a saving of around 10% in heating costs. In addition, the porous and irregular surface dampens the rather hard acoustics of the foyer due to the large glass surfaces and smooth stone floors.
