Garden pavilion
This small garden pavilion, designed by Hasler Maddalena Architects, stands in the middle of a tranquil Japanese garden in Aesch, near Basel, Switzerland. A large, minimalist clay oven inside acts as an earth wall, perfectly complementing the garden’s sense of tranquillity with its rich tactile qualities. The huge thermal mass of rammed earth acts like a heat battery, storing the energy of the fire and slowly releasing its warmth on cool autumn nights.
