House of friends
Two structures – rammed earth and wood – form a multi-storey residential ensemble that focuses on the specific qualities of these natural building materials. Without plastics or composite materials, embedded in the existing neighborhood, the new building reflects the client’s responsible commitment.
The Rammed earth house is three storeys high with an attic storey. The load-bearing core made of recycled concrete supports a prefabricated rammed earth façade, mounted on a spatial grid made of wooden profiles. Brick strips structure the surface horizontally, while oak windows with bronze frames lend the building depth and material presence.
The Wood house stands at right angles to Quartierstrasse. Prefabricated timber elements characterize the building, only the staircase is made of solid construction. The façade incorporates elements of regional building tradition with cornices, friezes and shutters. A central metal structure with loggias and balconies pierces the timber structure and creates space for community.
