Omicron
In the new building of the Vorarlberg-based company Omicron, several retreats and meeting places for employees were created under the guiding principles of Crossing Borders – an internal company association for educational projects in the Global South – and Relaxing Spaces.
A cave-like clay monolith creates a quiet, atmospheric retreat. Next to it, a light-flooded zeppelin made of a light wooden supporting structure and translucent cover made of hand-woven, non-violent silk invites people to talk and exchange ideas informally. These zones are complemented by a seating niche with cushions for resting and pausing.
This special hot spot of an open, people-centered work culture is continued in several lounge niches on the office levels. In terms of design and theme, these relaxing spaces are dedicated to development cooperation – named after countries such as Afghanistan, Ecuador, Mexico and Tanzania.
Natural materials such as clay and wood are used, with traditional craftsmanship, fair trade and resource-conserving processing being specifically promoted both in Europe and in countries such as Bangladesh and India. The West African Zabur technique was used for the clay monolith – as a combination of cultural knowledge, craftsmanship and contemporary interior design.
