The new funeral building in the area in front of the convent cemetery will create a place of silence that frames the laying out of the deceased sisters with dignity and creates space for a personal farewell: ” We were taken from the earth, we shall return to the earth – earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
In this cycle of becoming and passing away, clay as a building material stands for connection with the earth and the awareness of our own transience. The simple building made of rammed earth creates an atmosphere of gathering through its material, light and proportions. It is the first completed construction phase of the comprehensive renovation of the monastery – a new beginning that is rooted in what already exists.
