H. Residential building
A former attic was converted into a simple, harmoniously designed living space for a family. The conversion follows the same principles that have been tried and tested in international projects by Studio Anna Heringer, for example in Bangladesh: Building with simple, regenerative materials, with respect for the craft and the place.
Careful craftsmanship and the choice of consistently natural materials characterized the design. The introduction of a rammed earth wall contributed significantly to interior comfort by balancing humidity and stabilizing thermal highs and lows. The clay oven heats the mass of earth, which slowly diffuses into the room through an intimate, heated seating alcove. Handmade tiles by Karak and a rammed earth kitchen counter complete the tactile, artisanal essence of the design.
