Campus St. Michael

Germany’s first self-supporting rammed earth building is being built on the St. Michael campus in Traunstein according to plans by Anna Heringer – a milestone for sustainable construction. The forum, which is around 70 m long and 55 m wide, forms the new heart of the campus and combines architecture, education and sustainability in practice.

The solid, approx. 1m thick rammed earth walls support a concrete roof and give the building its characteristic materiality and atmosphere. The earth building was constructed using prefabricated elements from the Lehm Ton Erde production facility in Vorarlberg.

In future, the building will house spaces for education, meetings and social projects – including an inclusive café, a workshop and event rooms. With its powerful presence and the natural expression of clay, the Forum St. Michael stands for architecture that combines a down-to-earth approach and a vision for the future.
