Clay
casein

Clay casein is a fine filler based on clay and casein – a natural milk protein digested with lime that acts as a binding agent. The filler is produced in our studio in Schlins on the basis of a recipe developed by Martin Rauch. Applied to floors, walls or furniture with precision craftsmanship and finished with natural oils and waxes, seamless surfaces are created that are ecological, robust and can be experienced with the senses.

As if cast from a single mold: surfaces with clay casein are smoothed without joints. For a high-quality finish, it is important to ensure a level and stable substrate. Clay casein is also suitable in combination with underfloor heating.

The surface texture and color concept open up limitless design possibilities. The basic mixtures of yellow, white, red and black can be mixed together or supplemented with earth pigments or structurally effective additives such as natural fibers or gravel. The appearance and quality depend heavily on the craftsmanship.

Clay casein surfaces are comparable to oiled and waxed wooden floors in terms of durability and care. Thanks to the surface treatment with linseed oil and carnauba wax, clay casein has good dirt and water-repellent properties.

The filler is produced in our studio in Schlins, Vorarlberg using a special process. Orders and requests for product samples can be placed directly through our office. Our cooperation partner David Ledetzky is available to answer any questions about the design or technical details.
