St. Martha Church
St. Martha’s Church in the center of Nuremberg, a Gothic sacred building dating back to 1385, was severely damaged by fire in 2014. The roof truss, large parts of the interior and the historic windows were destroyed. Florian Nagler Architekten was commissioned to rebuild the church. While the exterior was reconstructed in keeping with its listed status, the interior was given a contemporary reinterpretation.
Lehm Ton Erde created a monolithic rammed earth floor, parts of which blend in with the preserved tiled flooring. The open-pored structure of the clay naturally regulates the humidity and creates a balanced room climate – particularly beneficial for sensitive instruments such as the organ.
